  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to early voting sites; amending

  3         s. 101.657, F.S.; providing that a supervisor

  4         of elections may designate any postsecondary

  5         institution or community college as an early

  6         voting site; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9  

10         Section 1.  Paragraph (a) of subsection (1) of section

11  101.657, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

12         101.657  Early voting.--

13         (1)(a)  As a convenience to the voter, the supervisor

14  of elections shall allow an elector to vote early in the main

15  or branch office of the supervisor. The supervisor shall mark,

16  code, indicate on, or otherwise track the voter's precinct for

17  each early voted ballot. In order for a branch office to be

18  used for early voting, it shall be a permanent facility of the

19  supervisor and shall have been designated and used as such for

20  at least 1 year prior to the election. The supervisor may also

21  designate any city hall, or permanent public library facility,

22  postsecondary institution, or community college as early

23  voting sites; however, if so designated, the sites must be

24  geographically located so as to provide all voters in the

25  county an equal opportunity to cast a ballot, insofar as is

26  practicable. The results or tabulation of votes cast during

27  early voting may not be made before the close of the polls on

28  election day. Results shall be reported by precinct.

29         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.
